Le Portrait de Petit Cossette formed in Montreal in the early 2000s around singer-songwriter Éléonore Beaulieu and multi-instrumentalist Alexandre Bastien. Their name references the character Cosette from Victor Hugo's Les Misérables. They worked with elements of classical, electronic, and folk music, which gave their early material an unconventional feel that didn't always fit neatly with mainstream expectations.
Their 2007 debut album was called Un Portrait. One of their better-known tracks is Ballad, which features Beaulieu's vocals over a haunting melody. Another song, Houseki, appears in their catalog. The band released at least two more albums, Cossette in 2011 and what appears to be a third titled Le Jar.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
