Leão Sem Dentes formed in São Paulo in 1998, led by vocalist and guitarist Rafael Castro. Their debut album 'É Sempre Assim' came out in 2002, with the title track becoming one of their best-known songs. The band's sound mixed rock, reggae, and funk, and they built a following through energetic live shows.
Castro's lyrics sometimes addressed social and political topics, which occasionally drew criticism. The group released several albums after their debut, including 'Borboletas Azuis' in 2005 and 'O Grande Dia' in 2008. Another track, 'O Que Eu Quero,' also appears among their popular work.
Alongside Castro, the lineup included Marco Polo on bass, Vitor Mota on drums, Marcio de Oliveira on keyboards, and Fábio Pádua on guitar. They put out records steadily into the 2020s, with 'Alma' arriving in 2020.
