Leat'eq formed in Tokyo in 2015 when vocalist Yumi Hara and guitarist Kota Uchiyama met in a music studio. The name means 'to shed light.' They were joined by bassist Tatsuya Nakamura and drummer Masato Yamamoto.
Their music pulls from Japanese pop and Western alternative rock, with Hara's vocals and Uchiyama's guitar work creating an atmospheric sound. In 2018, they released the single 'Tokyo,' which gained attention for its lyrics about urban life.
After the release of 'Tokyo,' the band faced plagiarism accusations in 2020 that were later dismissed. They've released two studio albums.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
