Leather Angel came out of Japan's early 1980s heavy metal scene with Mercy Misaki on vocals. Their debut single 'Heart Shaker' from 1982 had a raw, energetic sound that got attention. They put out two albums, Leather Angel in 1983 and Metal Queen the following year.
The band kept touring and playing live, building a following despite the debates around their material. They covered Led Zeppelin's 'Whole Lotta Love' and had other songs like 'Need Your Love' and 'We Came To Kill' in their set.
Leather Angel broke up in 1985 after what was described as a chaotic tour. Mercy Misaki went solo afterward, while the other members moved on to different projects. Their time together was short, but they were part of that early wave of Japanese metal.
