Lee Sang Gon started out in Seoul in the mid-90s with a band called Sanghaesung. They put out a few albums in the indie rock vein before he went solo in 2001. His first album, 'Gravity,' had the song 'Love Hurts' on it, which got some attention.
That song, along with others like 'Tears Are Falling' and 'I Will,' became part of his catalog over the next decade. He released several more albums, including 'Lonely Night' in 2003 and 'First Impression' in 2004. There was a period around 2002 when he faced some legal trouble, but he kept working after that.
He recorded with a few other artists like Baek Ji-young and Younha along the way. The original Sanghaesung lineup had Jung Ji-Hoon on guitar, Lee Jun-hee on bass, and Choi Won-uk on drums, with Lee Sang Gon handling vocals and guitar.
