Editor's note

Lee Seung Chul, the voice behind The Day

A Korean singer whose ballads like The Day and Darling soundtracked dramas and quiet moments.

If you only know one, make it The Day. For the full mood, add the OST version of Darling.

His voice carried some of the most recognizable Korean drama themes of the 2000s. The Day became a standard for emotional scenes, and the OST version of Darling anchored countless romantic storylines. Even without a sprawling public history, those songs still surface in playlists and reruns.

The songs suggest a steady presence in Korean balladry and drama soundtracks. From The Day in the early 2000s to later tracks like Sayonara, his work stayed in that lane of heartfelt, melodic singing.

Lee Seung Chul was born in Seoul in 1966. He started with a band called Lee Seung Chul & Friends when he was 17, putting out their first album in 1985. His solo debut came a few years later with 'The Second Confession' in 1989.

That album's lead single 'No One Else' became a hit, and it's still one of his most recognized songs. He followed it with albums like 'Voice' in 1992 and 'December' in 1998. Other tracks like 'Western Sky' and 'Love Is So Difficult' have stayed in rotation.

In the late 1990s he dealt with some health problems that required surgery, but he kept performing. There was a plagiarism accusation in 2001 that led to a short break from music. He's put out records steadily since, including 'The Lost Time' in 2012 and 'The Everlasting' in 2017.
