Lee Solomon was born Lee Solomon Williams and grew up in New York City. He started playing guitar and keyboard early on, drawing from R&B and rock. In the late 1960s, he put together a band with guitarist Joe Smith, bassist John Wilson, and drummer Bob Jones. They built a following playing live shows around the city's counterculture spots.
Their debut album came out in 1971, titled 'Please Know My Feelings' after the song that became their first real hit. The record also included tracks like 'Time for a Change' and 'Can't Stop Loving You.' They kept releasing albums through the 1970s, including 'Higher Ground' in 1973, 'Reach for the Sky' in 1975, and 'Heart of the Matter' in 1978.
By the mid-1970s, the band was dealing with some internal trouble. Joe Smith left in 1976 amid reports of substance abuse, which led to legal issues. They put out a couple more albums in the early 1980s, 'The Journey' and 'Facing the Storm,' before calling it quits later in the decade.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
