The group included Lee Williams on vocals and guitar, Robert "Poppa" Washington on saxophone, Eddie Bo on keyboards, Joseph "Smokey" Johnson on drums, and James "Red" Tyler on bass. They played a mix of rhythm and blues, soul, and rock 'n' roll.
Their 1959 single "Let's Get Down" became a hit and brought them wider attention. Another song, "No Fault," also appears among their notable recordings. The band was active into the early 1960s, releasing tracks like "Just a Little Bit" and "I'm Gonna Knock on Your Door."
Their sound, built around Williams's vocals and the band's rhythmic drive, had an influence on later soul and funk artists. The music holds up as a solid example of that New Orleans R&B energy from the turn of the sixties.
