Editor's note

Leeland's quiet hymns and campus beginnings

A worship band that started at Baylor University and wrote 'Way Maker'.

For a sense of their sound, 'Way Maker' is the obvious one. 'Yes You Have' from their top songs list gives you a different angle.

Leeland's music has a specific place in modern worship. 'Way Maker' from 2016 became a staple in Christian circles, and 'Tears Of The Saints' is another song people know. Their catalog isn't huge, but it's got a few songs that stuck.

Leeland Mooring and Jake Holtzman met at Baylor around 1998 and put together a band. Their first album 'Sound of Melodies' came out in 2004. Bassist Jared Hasselhoff left in 2019.
