Legião Gaúcha

Legião Gaúcha formed in Porto Alegre in the early 1980s, with Gérson Borges on vocals and guitar, Neco Fagundes on accordion, and Paulo Russo on bass. Their debut album came out in 1985 and found an audience in southern Brazil with songs that mixed traditional folk sounds with more contemporary arrangements.

Some of their material, like 'Saudades Do Velho' and 'As Flores do Meu Caminho,' leaned into straightforward regional styles, while other tracks carried more pointed lyrics that touched on social and political themes. This approach drew both listeners and some criticism at the time.

They kept recording through the late '80s and '90s, putting out songs such as 'Vai Começar O Bailão' and 'À Sombra do que ficou' that maintained their connection to gaúcho music traditions while occasionally addressing broader concerns.
