Legion of Hate formed in the late 1980s with a lineup that included vocalist Freddy Johansson, guitarists Jonas Stålhammar and Anders Nilsson, bassist Karl Bjällerstedt, and drummer Erik Ödmark. Their 1990 debut album 'Fields of Dead Flesh' drew attention for its graphic lyrics and aggressive sound, establishing them in the underground metal scene.
They released several albums through the 1990s and early 2000s, including 'Annihilation of Civilization' in 1993 and 'Hate Must Prevail' in 1996. Songs like 'His Horned Holiness' and 'Shadows & Dust' represented their blend of death metal intensity with darker atmospheric elements.
In 2005, vocalist Freddy Johansson died from substance abuse, which led to a hiatus in the band's activities. They returned in 2012 with remaining members continuing to perform material from their catalog.
