Legno formed in the late 1980s around guitarist and vocalist Max Cottafavi, bassist Paolo Bergami, and drummer Paolo Valli. Their self-titled debut came out in 1992, and they kept releasing albums through the 1990s and early 2000s, like 'Credevo' in 1994 and 'Legno III' in 1997. The lineup later included guitarist Alessandro 'Doc' Deidda and keyboardist Lorenzo Poli.
In 1993, their song 'Affogare' stirred up some debate. The lyrics dealt with depression and suicide, and while some listeners found them honest, others thought they were irresponsible. It's one of the tracks people still mention, along with 'Delia' and 'In (gin) di vita'.
Their sound shifted over time from the rougher edges of that first record to something more polished. They put out albums fairly regularly into the 2010s, including 'Infinito' in 2011 and 'L'Amore È un Attimo' in 2015.
