Lemmenkipeet formed in Helsinki in 1994, with Juho Saarinen, Pertti Kurikka, and J. Ollila starting out with an interest in folk and Celtic music. They put out their first album in 1996, followed by others like Rakkauden Armor and Kujanjuoksu.
In 2003, the song Enkeli became their breakout single, gaining attention across Finland. That same year they released an album also called Enkeli. Other songs like Hullu Mies and Sua En Voi Unohtaa also became part of their catalog.
After Enkeli, they kept releasing albums through the 2000s and into the 2010s, including Tuuletar, Yökehrääjä, Kuolleiden Maa, and Tulenkantajat. The lineup has changed over time, with Juho Saarinen remaining on vocals and guitar.
