Lemon Pipers

The Lemon Pipers formed in Oxnard, California in 1966. Their name came from a phrase in the Beatles song 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.' The original lineup included Bill Inglot on guitar and vocals, John 'Ivan' Davies on bass and vocals, Ron Gilbert on keyboards, and Steve Walmsley on drums.

Their biggest success came with 'Green Tambourine,' a psychedelic pop single that became a hit in 1968. The song's shimmering arrangement and ethereal vocals captured the sound of that moment. They followed it with tracks like 'Rice Is Nice' and 'Everything Is You' on their debut album, which was also called 'Green Tambourine.'

After their initial success, the band faced some difficulties. Walmsley left in 1969, and his replacement Richard Morello died in a car accident shortly after joining. They released three studio albums before fading from the scene, with 'Green Tambourine' remaining their most remembered work.
