Background notes

Archive material and source history

Len formed in Toronto in 1991 around siblings Marc and Sharon Costanzo. They took their name from their mother's maiden name. The band's debut album, "You Can't Stop the Bum Rush," came out in 1999 and included the single "Steal My Sunshine." That song reached number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became a radio staple.

After that breakthrough, Len released two more albums: a self-titled record in 2000 and "The Diary of the Madmen" in 2003. Their later work included songs like "Big Meanie" and "Beautiful Day," but none matched the commercial reach of their big hit. The band's lineup shifted over time, with drummer Scott Lewis leaving in 1999 and bassist Evan Clayton departing in 2003.

"Steal My Sunshine" has outlasted the band's active period. It still gets regular airplay and remains the track most people know Len for.
