Lena Valaitis was born in 1943 in Memel, East Prussia, which is now Klaipėda, Lithuania. She started performing as a teenager and first gained attention in 1966 after appearing on the German Schlager competition 'Schlagerfestival der Extraklasse.'
Her biggest hit came in 1979 with 'Ein Schöner Tag,' which topped charts in Germany and several other European countries. That song, along with tracks like 'Johnny Blue' and 'Komm Wieder, Wenn Du Frei Bist,' established her as a popular Schlager singer during that period.
She released albums including 'Schlagerparty' in 1978, 'Die Sonne und Du' in 1980, and 'Abenteuer' in 1988. In the 1980s, she faced a legal dispute with her former manager that affected her career for a time.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
