Lenny Williams

Lenny Williams came out of Gary, Indiana, and first hit the R&B charts in 1974 with his debut single 'Stop and Start (S.O.S.)'. That record was produced by Clarence Avant, who helped shape his early sound. By 1976, Williams had his biggest moment with the single ''Cause I Love You', which crossed over to the pop charts and became his signature song.

His voice, especially that high falsetto, carried a lot of soul records through the late 1970s. Songs like 'You Got Me Dangling on a String' and 'So Very Hard to Go' kept him on radio playlists. He worked with musicians like keyboardist Wayne Vaughn and guitarist David Washington, though he was always billed as a solo artist.

Williams faced some personal struggles in the 1980s and early '90s, but he eventually returned to performing. He recorded into the next decade, with songs like 'Don't Make Me Wait for Love' showing up in his later setlists. His music, particularly those mid-70s hits, still gets played on soul stations.
