Archive material and source history
Leo Sayer was born Gerard Hugh Sayer in Shoreham-by-Sea, England in 1948. He wrote his first hit, "The Show Must Go On," while still in his teens. His debut album "Silverbird" came out in 1972, and the single "More Than I Can Say" from that record became an international hit.
Sayer worked closely with collaborator David Courtney, who helped shape his sound. They co-wrote songs like "When I Need You" together. His 1976 album "Endless Flight" included "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing," which became another signature track.
He recorded over twenty albums during his career, including "Just a Boy" in 1973 and "Here" in 1979. While he faced some personal difficulties in the 1980s, he continued performing and recording music in the years that followed.
