Leões da Arca formed in Salvador, Bahia in 1999, drawing from the musical traditions of Candomblé and Umbanda. Their debut album came out in 2005, and they've released several more since, including 'Beleza do Infinito' in 2013.
Their music blends Afro-Brazilian rhythms with contemporary sounds, with songs like 'Eu Te Amo Tanto' and 'Universo Invisível' showing their range. The band's core has included vocalist Marcio Mello and multi-instrumentalist Jorge Continentino.
They've faced some criticism over their fusion approach, but have kept working in their own direction. Their 2020 album 'Axé' continued exploring the spiritual themes that run through much of their material.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
