Leonard Friend formed in 2002 with Aaron Morris on vocals and guitar, Kyle Connolly on bass, and Jesse Nixon on drums. They started playing in clubs and underground venues, building a reputation for raw energy. Their debut album 'The Shadow of the Sun' came out in 2005.
That first album established their sound with songs like 'Annie Lenox' and 'Middle Of The Night' showing their introspective side. They followed it with 'The Death of the Party' in 2008, 'The Great Escape' in 2011, and 'The Endless Night' in 2014. Their lyrics often dealt with dark themes that divided listeners, with some finding them honest and others seeing them as too negative.
Songs like 'Every Woman' and 'Gatorade & Tylenol' became part of their setlists. The band maintained a consistent lineup through their releases, with Morris, Connolly, and Nixon staying together from formation through at least 2014.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
