Leonardo Charrua was a musician from the Mbyá-Guarani community in Brazil. He sang in Guarani and played guitar, often with a band that included Juarez Martins on bass, Jocelei Nunes on violin, and Marcos Moreira on percussion.
His song 'Guarani' became a kind of anthem, a direct statement about his people's connection to the land. He also recorded 'Milonga da Noite Grande' and released albums like Guarani in 2007, Cerne in 2010, Coração de Terra in 2013, and Yasuri in 2016.
Charrua worked with other musicians too, including the Brazilian folk singer Alceu Valença and the American vocalist Bobby McFerrin. His music drew from Guarani rhythms but wasn't confined by them.
