Leonardo Favio was born Fuad Jorge Jury in 1938, a self-taught singer and songwriter from Buenos Aires. His music drew from tango and folklore traditions, but he found his voice in romantic ballads that connected with Argentine listeners in the early 1960s. Songs like 'Ella ya me olvidó' and 'Fuiste Mía Un Verano' became hits, establishing his reputation for melancholic vocals and lyrics about heartbreak.
His 1965 self-titled album and subsequent records like 'Fuiste mía un verano' in 1968 built a catalog that included over thirty studio albums. While he worked with musicians like guitarist Oscar Cardozo Ocampo, Favio remained the central figure in his music, writing and performing songs that felt personal and direct rather than polished.
He continued making music through these challenges, with later albums like 'Simplemente una historia de amor' in 1974. He died in 2012.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
