Leone do Beat formed in Salvador in the late 1990s when musicians Bigu, Jacaré, and Teco started playing together. Their debut album came out in 2003, with the title track "Last Hope" becoming their breakout song. The band's sound mixed samba, reggae, and hip-hop, which drew some criticism from traditional samba musicians at the time.
Their lyrics often dealt with social issues, which earned them both criticism and a following in Salvador's neighborhoods. They kept recording through the 2000s, putting out albums like "Diz Aí" in 2005 and "Fé na Luta" in 2007. Other tracks like "Mais Corre, Mais Din" and "Zum Zum Zum" show their rhythmic, percussive approach.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
