Leonidas Yopan formed in São Paulo around 2010. The band's name combines the Spartan king's name with a Greek word for melody, and its founding members were vocalist Leonardo de Oliveira and guitarist Felipe Furia. Their sound pulls from Brazilian popular music, reggae, and rock.
They had a breakthrough in 2013 with the single "Bom Dia Sol," which became a chart hit in Brazil. Another song, "Nossa Simples Estória," appears among their top tracks. The band has released several albums, including 2015's "Paraíso Perdido" and 2020's "Sol."
Leonidas Yopan has drawn attention for political stances, like criticizing government environmental policies in 2016. They've also boycotted festivals over sponsorship ethics. The group continues to play shows and record music.
