Les Variations formed in Paris in the early 2000s, a group of musicians drawn to vocal harmonies and poetic lyrics. Their debut album 'Maybe Forever' came out in 2006, and its title track became a radio hit that brought them wider attention. The band's sound blended pop with folk and classical touches, with French lyrics often written by vocalist Anne-Sophie de Paula.
They released several more albums over the next decade and a half, including 'Phoenix' in 2010, 'Elysia' in 2014, 'Cosmos' in 2018, and 'Serendipity' in 2022. The lineup featured de Paula alongside Olivier Libaux on guitar, Nicolas Carpentier on bass, and Romain Lefèvre on drums.
Their music found its way into films and television, and their live shows developed a reputation for being intimate. While some critics felt their second album didn't match the emotional pull of the first, they kept working and putting out records.
