Les Wriggles formed in 1980 as a Haitian Christian music group with four members: Jean-Claude Valmy, Jean-Claude Jean-Baptiste, Emmanuel Pierre, and Emmanuel Achille. They worked with traditional Haitian sounds like kompa and folklore in their gospel music, which sometimes drew criticism for blending sacred and secular styles.
Their song "Allez Me Cherchez Jésus" became particularly well-known among listeners. Other tracks like "Ah Ben Ouais Mais Bon" and "C'est comme ça" show their mix of devotional lyrics with Haitian musical rhythms.
They released albums including "Chantez et Dansez," "Levons Nos Mains," and "Le Meilleur Est à Venir." The Haitian Academy of Music inducted them in 2001, and they received some Gospel Music Excellence Awards.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
