We noticed the scars

long before you closed your eyes,

and you didn't get far;

they caught you at the county line.

And I couldn't recall,

what your dad died for.

And I reached for the phone,

but truths had cut the cord.

We'd try to hold hands,

but we'd always end up getting mad.

The eyes floating in black,

and grins and sneers of wicked men.

And I couldn't believe,

where your mom came from.

And you scattered the leaves

when you turned to run.

And so you cut your hair,

and dyed it white and blue and I,

Think, you're getting scared,

but this is just a worldly sphere.

And oh, you masked the time

in subtle embarassment.

Oh, how you have tried

to end this crass relationship.

Your mother's name you have borne,

to this, the end of saviorship;

and oh, it was a war,

the casualties keep pouring in.

And we couldn't believe

what we thought we saw,

the law lingered at last,

and Annie's hands fell to the floor.

And we buried her in

a linen suit with hair brushed back.

And all she could've been,

before the eyes that float in black

came back.
