Levada Alternativa formed in Salvador, Bahia in the mid-1990s. Their debut album 'Raiz Forte' came out in 1995, and they followed it with 'Deve Ser Atração' in 1997, which included the song of the same name that became a live staple. The band's lineup has stayed fairly consistent with vocalist and guitarist Marrom, bassist Zé Preto, drummer Paulinho Rocha, and keyboardist Alberto Baccio.
Their 2002 album 'Sudeste' showed them working with rock influences while keeping their reggae foundation. Songs like 'Ela é boa' and 'Me Sinto Bem' from their catalog have that mix of Brazilian rhythms and driving grooves.
They kept releasing albums through the 2000s, including 'Deixa Rolar' in 2007. Their fanbase, sometimes called the 'Levades,' has supported them through various industry challenges. The band's sound has remained anchored in that blend of reggae and rock with Brazilian elements, heard in tracks like 'Menina' featuring Origame Zl.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
