Level 12 formed in São Paulo in 1990 with Marcos Lessa on vocals, Alexandre Castilho on bass, Marcelo Mussi on keyboards, and André Popó on drums. Their 1993 single 'Deixa Ser' became a breakout hit, mixing pop, rock, and samba in a way that caught on nationally. They followed it with albums like '12 Canções' and a live record in 1997.
In 2004, the group faced plagiarism accusations over a song called 'Solteiro Feliz,' which they denied. They kept recording, putting out a 10-year retrospective in 2001 and another studio album a decade later. Other tracks like 'Dilema' and 'Velhos Tempos' round out their catalog.
Their music has been used in Brazilian films and TV shows, and the band has occasionally supported education and equality causes outside of recording.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
