Levitas Reggae formed in São Paulo in 2002 with vocalist Júnior Dread, bassist Paulo Breder, and drummer Ricardo Di Santo. They started playing local events, building a following around reggae's themes of unity and love.
Their 2009 single "Gratidão" became a breakout hit in Brazil, with its lyrics about appreciating life's simple blessings connecting with listeners. The song appears on their album of the same name, alongside earlier work like their self-titled 2006 release and later material such as 2015's "Raízes."
They've worked with other artists including Brazilian reggae musician Edson Gomes, as well as Ky-Mani Marley and Luciano. Their songs "Eu Quero Falar" and "Filhos do Mais Alto Jah" continue their focus on spiritual and social themes within a reggae framework.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
