Levítico formed in Brazil around the mid-2000s with four members: Anderson Freire on vocals, Rodrigo Campos on bass, Gustavo Mariano on guitar, and Fernando Palhano on drums. They released their self-titled debut album in 2006, which included the song "Tu Ayer."
Their music falls into contemporary Christian styles, with Freire writing most of the lyrics. The band put out several more albums over the following decade, including "Deus de perto" in 2008 and "Nada Além da Graça" in 2011.
In 2016, Levítico released a song called "Quem Sou Eu" that drew some criticism from certain Christian listeners who took issue with its theological perspective. The band maintained that the track was about divine grace.
