Levy Lopes came from Paracatu, Minas Gerais, and started playing music early. He formed a band in 1994, first called Levy Lopes & Banda, then just Levy Lopes. Their 1996 debut album Vendavais gave them a national hit with the title track, a ballad that mixed sertanejo and pop.
After Vendavais, he put out albums like Coração de Pedra in 1997, Alma Nua in 1999, Um Novo Tempo in 2002, and 50 Anos in 2014. His sound took in rock, folk, and gospel touches over time, and he wrote about love and loss in songs like Basta Confiar Em Deus and Confidências.
He had some personal and health troubles that slowed his work at points.
