La Ley formed in Santiago, Chile in 1987 with Beto Cuevas on vocals, Andrés Bobe on guitar, Pedro Frugone on bass, and Mauricio Clavería on drums. Their 1993 self-titled debut had a raw, energetic sound, but it was 1995's 'Doble Opuesto' that broke through with the single 'El Duelo.'
That song became their most recognizable track, a straightforward rock anthem about heartbreak that connected widely. The band followed it with albums like 'Invisible' in 1996 and 'Vértigo' in 1998, which included the song 'Mentira.'
Internal tensions and lineup changes affected the group over time, including Clavería's departure around 2000. They kept recording with different drummers, putting out 'Uno' that same year, but eventually stopped working together in 2005.
