De l'arbret tots els ocells,

Tres al nord, tres a l'orient,
D'altres cap al sud,
I l'arbret es queda sol,
Lliurat al mal temps.
I a la mare jo li dic:
-"ara no em turmentis,
Perquè mare tot d'un cop,
Un ocell em torno.
Vull pujar damunt l'arbret,
I vull bressolar-lo,
Tot l'hivern i encara més,
Amb una cançó".
I la mare diu al fill,
Mentre els ulls li ploren:
-"ai déu meu! que et gelaràs,
Estant damunt l'arbret"
I a la mare jo li dic,
Als seus ulls preciosos:
-"tan se val que vingui el fred,
Vull tornar-me ocell".
I la mare fent grans plors:
-"pren! déu meu, senyor!
Pren això, aquest mocador,
Perquè no et refredis.
Les sabates són aquí,
Mal hivern arriba,
Tapa't amb aquest llençol,

Pren també l'abric d'hivern,
Has perdut el cap,
