Light This City formed in Ontario, Canada in 2004. The band included vocalist Laura Nichol, drummer Chris Vanover, guitarist Ryan White, and bassist Andrew Dawson. Their early years involved some lineup changes and financial difficulty, and Nichol dealt with anxiety and depression.
Their debut album 'Facing the Thousand' came out in 2008. The record's mix of aggression and melody brought them more attention, and its direct lyrics about mental health and politics stirred some discussion. The band was also known for speaking out on social issues.
They toured a fair amount in the 2010s, playing shows with bands like Rise Against and A Day to Remember. Later albums like 'Stormchaser' from 2011 and 'Terminal Bloom' from 2017 showed them working with a wider range of sounds, pulling in bits of post-hardcore and metalcore. Songs like 'Cold' and 'Self-Portrait' are among their better-known tracks.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
