Lights of Day formed in New Jersey in the late 1960s with Michael Russo on guitar and vocals, Tony Romeo on bass, Anthony LaBruno on drums, and Michael McHugh on keyboards. They played local clubs and college shows, building a following with their straightforward rock sound.
Their self-titled debut album came out in 1972 and included the song "Shine Like the Morning," which got some radio play. They put out a few more records over the next few years, like "Gemini" in 1973 and "The Great Western Union" in 1974, before calling it quits around 1976.
Some of their other songs included "Manic Depression" and "Roll Away the Stone." The band dealt with the usual rock-and-roll tensions and lineup shuffles, and their lyrics sometimes touched on social issues that drew criticism at the time.
They've played occasional reunion shows since then, and their music still turns up on classic rock stations now and then.
