Lil Jeff formed in São Paulo in the mid-1990s with Alexandre Kassin on vocals, Pedro Santos on guitar, Fábio Almeida on bass, and Rodrigo Barba on drums. They played a mix of punk, rock, and electronica in the city's underground clubs before releasing their debut album 'O Prozac do Rock 'n' Roll' in 1996.
That album's lead single 'Todos os Meus Ídolos Estão Mortos' connected with young listeners in Brazil. The song's title translates to 'All My Idols Are Dead,' and its lyrics about disillusionment and cultural loss became something of an anthem for a certain segment of Brazilian youth at the time.
Their other songs include 'Azazel,' 'Dia Chuvoso,' 'Serial Phonk Killa,' and '16.' The band's lyrics often touched on themes of political apathy and searching for meaning, which resonated at their live shows. They were known for outspoken lyrics and provocative performances that sometimes drew criticism.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
