Lil Tjay is Tione Jayden Merritt from the Bronx. He put out his first single "Resume" when he was 16 in 2017, and his debut mixtape "Tjay" followed the next year. The track "Brothers" from that mixtape got some real attention online.
In 2020, he and 6LACK released "Calling My Phone," a ballad about a strained relationship that ended up doing very well. It's one of his most recognizable songs, along with tracks like "F.N" and "Run It Up."
His music tends to lean into melodic, introspective territory, often dealing with personal themes over production that blends hip-hop and R&B.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
