Background notes

Archive material and source history

Lilico formed in the 1980s with Pedro Camargo on vocals and guitar, Almirzinho on drums, and Mariozinho on bass. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1986, mixing samba, funk, and pop in a way that caught on quickly. Two years later, the song "Tempo Bom" from their second album became a Brazilian radio staple, known for its upbeat feel and nostalgic lyrics.

They kept recording through the early 1990s with albums like "Vamos Fugir" and "Loucura," and sometimes brought in other players like keyboardist Ronaldo Barcelos. Another track people remember is "Panelada de Bochecha," which has that same lively, communal sound. The band took a break at one point when Camargo stepped away, but they eventually regrouped and kept playing.

In 2003 they put out a compilation called "O Melhor de Lilico," collecting songs from their earlier records. They're still around, performing those older tunes that have stuck in the Brazilian rotation for decades.
