Pieces of me

Into my dark cave I go

All the things, bit of string

go to make up me.

Such bits and pieces of trash

Had their day, let them fly away.

Old stacks of paper and tin

Make my soul, got no goal

I can't see my way.

Creased furs and faces of friends

Got no soul, let them go

'Cause my mother told I would always be right

If I kept the light.

Dry crumbled broken and dead

Ashes dust, sex and lust

Weigh my soul like lead.

Into my dark life they go

Stored away never see the day.

So many faded old names

Broken toys, shattered joys

Pins and paper games.

Lost little piece of truth

Had their day, had their say

And my mother told me I would always be right

If I kept the light.

Dark little toy shops and streets

Lost old dogs, London fogs, never see my way.

All tied with pieces of string.

Life's that way, hide them from the day.

Dust in the corners of dreams

All in bits, stone and grit

Piles of broken schemes

Old flanking buildings I'll say

Had their day, Let them fly away.
