Lipps Inc

Lipps Inc. formed in Minneapolis in 1976 around Steven Greenberg and Cynthia Johnson. They put out a few singles before 'Funkytown' hit in 1980, which became a massive disco anthem that topped charts in the U.S. and elsewhere. The track's synth bass line and Johnson's vocal delivery made it instantly recognizable.

Beyond that single, they released albums like 'Pucker Up' and 'Designer Music,' which gave them other dancefloor tracks such as 'Designer Music' and 'How Long.' Their sound mixed disco with funk elements and electronic production touches that were common in that era.

They worked with guitarist David Rivkin and drummer Terry Evans, though the group's lineup and activity shifted after the early 1980s. Lipps Inc. is mostly remembered for that one huge hit, but their catalog includes a handful of other songs that got play in clubs at the time.
