Listener formed in 2005 with Daniel Horneman, Jonathan Jarzombek, and Dave Gedge. Their early sound came through on the 2008 EP 'In the Meantime,' which had a raw, emotionally charged feel. The band's 2009 album 'Wooden Heart' got some critical attention for its themes of loss and regret.
Songs like 'Failing Is Not Just For Failures' and 'Seatbelt Hands' show their approach, intense, with introspective lyrics. They put out albums like 'Distant Fields' in 2011 and 'Time Is a Machine' in 2013. Dave Gedge left in 2015, and guitarist Kurt Ballou joined the group afterward.
They've kept releasing music, including 'Twenty-Two' in 2016 and 'Hollow Ground' in 2019. The current lineup has Horneman on vocals and guitar, Jarzombek on drums, and Ballou on guitar.
