LitolJah formed in Salvador, Bahia around 2012, led by Alexandre da Silva with Junior Bocão on bass, Igor Gomes on drums, and Mateus de Paula on guitar. Silva had been singing reggae before starting the band, and they mixed funk, soul, rap, and Brazilian rhythms into something that didn't stick to one genre.
