Little Beaver

Little Beaver was a soul and funk band from Atlanta led by singer and guitarist Beaver Sheppard. They formed in 1965 with drummer James 'Sax' King and bassist Larry 'Lucky' Miller, playing local clubs and talent shows around Georgia.

In 1967 they signed with Symbol Records and released their debut single 'On the Inside Looking Out.' Two years later came 'I Can Dig It Baby,' which reached number one on the Billboard R&B Singles chart in 1969. That song became their signature track, a straightforward funk groove with Sheppard's vocals riding over the rhythm section.

After that peak, the band continued recording through the early 1970s, though they never matched the commercial success of 'I Can Dig It Baby.' Their sound remained rooted in Southern soul with funk rhythms, the kind of music that worked well in clubs and on regional radio.
