Little Quail

Little Quail formed in Oslo in 2014 around vocalist Mari Kvien Brunvoll, with multi-instrumentalist Aleksander Kolstad and drummer Geir Sundstøl. Their debut album 'In the Beginning' came out the following year, followed by 'Your Ghost' in 2017 and 'The Longing' in 2019. They released '1, 2, 3, 4' in 2022, which includes the track '1,2,3,4' from their top songs list.

Their music tends toward sparse arrangements and atmospheric melodies, with songs like 'Mammamia' and 'Azarar na W3' showing their preference for ethereal harmonies over dense production. In 2017 they settled a legal dispute over their band name with another group, allowing both to continue using it with some restrictions.

They haven't followed a conventional pop trajectory, instead building a catalog that moves between introspective lyrics and experimental touches. The 2022 album suggests they've circled back to the clearer melodic approach of their earlier work while keeping the quiet, haunting quality that defines their sound.
