Little Willie John was born Willie John Fork Jr. in Culloden, Georgia in 1937. He sang gospel with the Sensational Nightingales as a teenager before signing with King Records in 1956. That year he released 'Fever,' which became a hit.
His version of 'Need Your Love So Bad' remains his best-known recording. Other songs like 'Big Blue Diamonds' and 'Suffering With The Blues' showed his range as a vocalist. He recorded several albums for King, including Fever and Little Willie John Sings the Blues.
John's later years were difficult. He struggled with addiction and legal problems. He died in 1968 at age thirty, leaving behind a small but influential catalog of rhythm and blues recordings.
