Livewire came together in Los Angeles during the mid-1980s. The original lineup included vocalist Michael Sweet, guitarist George Lynch, bassist J.D. Cronise, and drummer Tommy Aldridge. They put out their first album, 'Lightning Strikes,' in 1986, which featured the song 'Fake' as its lead single.
That track became their calling card, a straightforward rock song about heartbreak that connected with a lot of listeners. They followed it with a few more albums like 'Fighting the Distance' and 'Mental Jewelry' over the next several years. Their sound was built on Sweet's clear vocals and Lynch's guitar work over a solid rhythm section.
The band had its share of trouble. Lynch was arrested for cocaine possession in 1989, and Sweet faced plagiarism accusations around the same time for another song. Lynch eventually left the group in 1993.
