Lizzie West formed as an indie rock band in the early 2010s, with Lizzie West on vocals and guitar, Alex Stern on guitar, Ben Hayes on bass, and Jake Miller on drums. They released their first EP, "Whispers in the Night," in 2012. Their 2014 album "The Day We Met" included the single of the same name, which became their breakout track.
In 2015, guitarist Alex Stern was diagnosed with stage 3 melanoma. The band continued touring with a substitute guitarist while Stern underwent treatment. They released "Lost in the Shadows" in 2016 and "Echoes of the Past" in 2019. Their songs like "Dusty Turnaround," "Prayer," and "Chariot's Rise" often explore themes of love and loss.
In 2018, a former member filed a lawsuit alleging sexual harassment and discrimination against the band. Lizzie West denied the allegations, and the case was later dismissed. That same year, they put out a live EP called "Live from the Black Box." Their sound shifted over time from the acoustic folk of their early work to more layered production on later albums.
