Lole y Manuel

Lole y Manuel were a duo from Triana, Seville, who began working together in 1968. Lole Montoya sang and wrote lyrics, while Manuel Molina sang and played guitar. Their music drew from flamenco traditions but filtered them through a more poetic, introspective lens.

Their 1975 album 'Nuevo Día' gave them their name and established their approach. Songs like 'Tu Mira' showed how they could take flamenco's emotional intensity and direct it toward quieter, more personal reflections. They weren't trying to be traditionalists or purists; they were just making the music that felt right to them.

Over the next decade they released several more albums, including 'Pasaje del Agua' in 1976 and 'Romero Verde' in 1979. Their work found an audience that appreciated how they handled familiar forms with a lighter, more contemporary touch. They kept recording into the 1990s, with 'Albaida' arriving in 1995.
