Londonbeat formed in London in the late 1980s with members Jimmy Helms, George Chandler, William Henshall, and Marc Goldschmitz. They signed with Arista Records and put out their debut album 'In the Blood' in 1990.
That album's lead single 'I've Been Thinking About You' became a global hit, topping charts in multiple countries. The song's straightforward pop-soul arrangement and memorable hook connected with listeners in a way their other material didn't quite match.
After that peak, the group saw lineup changes and some legal issues. Jimmy Helms left the band, and they faced plagiarism accusations around their song 'A Better Man' in 1994. Their later work included tracks like 'You Bring On The Sun' and 'Crying In The Rain,' but they never recaptured the same level of attention.
